  Objective

The main objective of the Association is to promote the establishment of sound Islamic banking systems and practices in Malaysia in cooperation and consultation with Bank Negara Malaysia or other regulatory bodies in Malaysia.
 

The Association also aims at promoting and representing the interests of members by all means and methods consistent with the laws of Malaysia in or connected with Malaysia and to render where possible such advice or assistance as may be deemed necessary and expedient to members.
 

Besides the above AIBIM promotes education and training in Islamic banking so as to upgrade Islamic banking expertise in Malaysia.
 

In pursuing the above objectives the Association works in co-operation with other similar associations in the country and elsewhere in the world.

  Membership of the Association

Takaful Institutions


The Association accepts two kinds of membership:

 a) Ordinary membership, and
 b) Associate membership

Ordinary membership is open all Islamic banks, commercial banks, merchant banks and other banking or financial institutions providing or offering Islamic banking business or Islamic financial services.

The Council may unanimously decide to elect such organizations with representative offices in Malaysia to be associate members. Associate members are not eligible for representation on the Council and are not entitled to vote at General Meetings.

The management of the Association is delegated to the Council which consists of eleven elected members and three co-opted ordinary members. The elected members elect among themselves the office-bearers of the Association comprising of a President, a Vice President, an Honourable Secretary and an Honourable Treasurer.

  Benefit to members

 

The Association renders to members where possible advice or assistance as may be deemed necessary or expedient. Regular meetings and discussions are also held among members to exchange views regarding issues of common interest to members. Information likely to be of interest to members are circulated by the Association.

The Association also organize seminars, conferences and talks for members and other participants.

Besides the above AIBIM also organizes meetings with Bank Negara and other relevant government departments and agencies relating to issues relevant to the industry.

The members of the two consultative committees established by Bank Negara, i.e the Consultative Committee on Services (CCS) and Consultative Committee on Product & Market Development (CCPMD) comprise mainly of members from AIBIM member institutions.
 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  Islamic Banking Award

 


In conjunction with the Islamic Banking and Takaful Week organised every two years, AIBIM established two awards, namely “Tokoh Kewangan Islam” and “Anugerah Prestasi Cemerlang”.

The former is to recognize, reward and encourage activities that lead to the promoting of outstanding works in the fields of Islamic banking and finance by an individual. The award include a cash reward of RM 20,000.

The “Anugerah Prestasi Cemerlang” on the other hand is to recognize and reward outstanding performance in the field of Islamic banking and finance by an Islamic banking and financial institution.
