Shariah Non Compliance (SNC) Reporting

The Shariah Non Compliance Committee completed development of the reporting structure for SNC and submitted to BNM which was incorporated in BNM's guideline issued on 15 March 2013. The reporting structure was formulated based on paragraph 2.17 of Shariah Governance Framework which requires IFI is to notify BNM on Shariah non-compliance event of the institution's business operations and activities.

Shariah Standard

BNM in collaboration with ISRA started developing eleven (11) Shariah standards beginning March 2013. The objective is to strengthen the regulatory framework for Shariah contracts.

In making this initiative a success, AIBIM established a special taskforce committee i.e. AIBIM-ISRA Shariah Standard Formulation Task Force (Task Force) to assist BNM and ISRA in drafting 9 standards namely:

  1. Wadiah
  2. Istisna'
  3. Tawarruq
  4. Hibah
  5. Kafalah
  6. Ijarah
  7. Murabahah
  8. Wa'd
  9. Wakalah

Sharing Session on challenges in ensuring Shariah compliance in Banking

Part of the functions of Shariah Governance Committee (SGC) is to ensure the Shariah fraternity is equipped with the necessary knowledge to educate and advise the stakeholders while maintaining the Shariah integrity.

In reference to the above, AIBIM under the SGC initiative organised a hi-tea talk entitled "Sharing Session on challenges in ensuring Shariah compliance in Banking". This event was attended by 35 junior Shariah officers of AIBIM member banks.

Credit Support Annex-I (CSA)

A credit support annex provides credit protection by setting forth the rules governing the mutual posting of collateral. As part of MOU with International Islamic Financial Market (IIFM), AIBIM Capital Market and Treasury Capital (CMTC) committee developed Credit Support Annex-i while IIFM developed the Tahawwut Master Agreement. CSA was drafted by M/s Lee Hishamuddin and completed circulated to members in 2013.

Karnival Halal Kedah

Islamic Banking seminar to government servants during "Karnival Halal Kedah", Sg. Petani , Kedah (14 – 16 March 2013)
AIBIM undertook an initiative to promulgate Islamic banking to rural communities. For this purpose, AIBIM collaborated with JAKIM to organise an Islamic Banking seminar to Federal government officers stationed and mosque administrators at Malaysia's outer regions. The purpose of this program is to target community leaders in Malaysia's rural areas on the values of Islamic banking. The first of the series of events was held on 14 March 2013 Sungai Petani, which was attended by government servants in the state of Kedah and neighbouring state. The seminar had 200 participants from federal government servants in that region where member banks also participated by setting up booths to give further on hand information on Islamic banking and the many products available.

Seminar on IB to SMEs (26 June 2013)

In conjunction with SME Week 2013, which will be organized by SME Corporation Malaysia Berhad from 25-27 June 2013, AIBIM organized a seminar on Islamic Banking to SMEs. The Seminar saw an attendance of 200 SME operators in the Klang Valley

Workshop on IB to students (27June 2013)

In conjunction with SME Week 2013, which will be organized by SME Corporation Malaysia Berhad from 25-27 June 2013, AIBIM organized a workshop on Islamic Banking to students of higher learning. This event was held at Dewan Perdana, SME Corporation Malaysia Berhad, Level 5 Platinum Sentral and was attended by 200 students of higher learning

Seminar Perbankan Islam kepada pentadbir masjid Kuching (9 Oct. 2013)

As part of the continuous effort to promulgate Islamic Banking in Malaysia, AIBIM has collaborated with JAKIM to organise an Islamic Banking seminar to Federal government officers stationed in the state of Sarawak. The event was held on 9 October 2013 in Kuching, Sarawak and is the second series of awareness programs targeting government servants and mosque administrators in Malaysia. The seminar had 270 participants from mosque administrators in Kuching where member banks also participated by setting up booths to give further on hand information on Islamic banking and the many products available.

Seminar Perbankan Islam kepada pentadbir masjid Miri (11 Oct 2013)

As part of the continuous effort to promulgate Islamic Banking in Malaysia, AIBIM has collaborated with JAKIM to organise an Islamic Banking seminar to Federal government officers stationed in the state of Sarawak. The event was held on 11 October 2013 in Miri, Sarawak and is the third series of awareness programs targeting government servants and mosque administrators in Malaysia. The seminar had 220 participants from mosque administrators in Miri where member banks also participated by setting up booths to give further on hand information on Islamic banking and the many products available.

Iftar AIBIM

In celebration of the holy month of Ramadhan and the upcoming Eid, AIBIM held an Iftar for its member banks. The purpose of this event is to forge closer ties among mebers of the Islamic banking 7 finance community as well as to establish stronger relationship among the industry players. The Iftar was attended by YBhg. Dato'Abdul Wahid Omar, Minister in Prime Minister's Department and Ybhg. Dato, Muhammad Ibrahim, Deputy Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia as guests of honor. 600 people from the Islamic banking industry attended the function which witnessed a lifetime appreciation award presented to YBhg Tan Sri Dato'Sri Nor Mohammed Yakcop for his outstanding contributions to Islamic banking and finance.

Prior to the function, a national level Ijtima'was held between Islamic banks syariah advisors and Bank Negara Malaysia to deliberate on issues relating to syariah and regulatory matters.

Kuala Lumpur Islamic Finance Forum

This prestigious annual event will gather a pool of industry experts ranging from regulatory authorities, Shariah scholars, bankers, legal practitioners, Takaful operators, consultants and academicians to share with the delegates their views and experiences in developing Islamic banking and finance around the globe. Held on annual basis, AIBIM has traditionally been one of the key partners in driving this event. This event, which is in its tenth edition. AIBIM members participated by sending delegates and having exhibitions. participation from AIBIM member banks in its exhibition namely Bank Muamalat Malaysia Berhad, Maybank Islamic Berhad, AmIslamic Bank Berhad, RHB Islamic Bank Berhad, Alliance Islamic Bank Berhad, Affin Islamic Bank Berhad. This event records registration from 300 participants.
